Practice procedures of vision level measurement in preschool children

Getting to know the image first

Training children to recognize all pictures until they can read aloud fluently

Practice guessing pictures by using both eyes at the same time

Once children can recognize all the pictures fluently, parents should start practicing their children to guess the pictures. To do this, the child will sit on the lap of the 1st parent, and then the 2nd parent will hold the picture for the child to guess by pointing at each picture. After that, the 2nd parent will walk backward slowly, and the child will guess again. Keep repeat doing like this until the child cannot guess the picture anymore.

Practice guessing pictures by closing each side of the eyes and using one eye side to see at a time

Once children can guess pictures well, they should begin practicing to guess pictures
- by using one eye side to see at a time. To do this practice, the child will sit on the lap of the 1st parent, and each side of the child’s eyes will be closed (start with any side), for example, the left eye will be closed, but the right eye will be used to see and measured for vision ability.
- After that, the 2nd parent will hold the picture to let the child guess by pointing at each picture and walk backward slowly to let the child guess the pointing picture again.
- Keep doing like this until the child cannot guess the picture anymore. Then the other eye side will be closed,
- and the parents will keep doing the same steps as mentioned repeatedly.

The pictures used for measuring vision level in preschool children

It is necessary to provide the visual tests of both eye sides for all types of eye diseases examination in order to check whether they are in good condition or not. In the test for vision measurement in young children under the age of 5 years old, pictures will be applied. Children will look at the pictures on computer or testing sheet. If the child can see and know the pictures well, the child will be able to respond. Thus parents are advised to train their children to recognize these pictures before the eye examination in order to receive accurate examination results.
